RESUMO

Extensivity of infection of Fasciola hepatica L. among cattle in Lublin's voivodship from 1993-2001. Aim of the work was to determine extensitivity of appearance of hepatica among catlle put to slaughter in slaughtershouses in Lublin's voivodship from 1993 to 2001. Substance for the work was braught from the annual reports of official examination of slaughtered animals, reached from both main Inspectorate (department) of Veterinary in the Ministry of Agriculture and from Regional Institute of Veterinar's Hygiene in Lublin. Results of researches are as follow: extensivity of infection of Fasciola hepatica among cattle in Lublin and voivodship between 1993 - 1999 oscillates about 5%. In 2000 extensivity of invasion reached 10,9%.

RESUMO

The metal concentration in water and ground deposits of 6 collapse water reservoirs in the area of Upper Silesia was tested. The examined reservoirs are situated in the so-called cross-town tract near Swietochlowice and Ruda Slaska. It was concluded that the metal concentration in water samples was low. In accordance with the present regulations, this allows to classify the water in these reservoirs to the 1st class purity water. The metal content in the ground deposits is high. Iron (Fe) concentration in the deposits ranged from 28288.9 mg/kg to 39162.9 mg/kg; the concentration of manganese (Mn) ranged from 2557.95 mg/kg to 3398.52 mg/kg and that of zinc (Zn) was 1288.78 mg/kg average through the year. The highest zinc concentration reached 2834.74 mg/kg. Cadmium (Cd) occurred in the deposits in the content of 10.4 mg/kg. The average year concentration of lead (Pb) in the deposits was 252.4 mg/kg. Copper (Cu) was found in the deposits in the amount of 45.0 mg/kg. The highest concentration of this metal in the ground deposits was 103.14 mg/kg. Magnesium (Mg) was on average present in the deposits in the concentration of 1913 mg/kg and its highest concentration reached 6777.89 mg/kg.

RESUMO

On the background of informations about frequency of appearance Fasciola hepatica L. among cattle in Poland in the time from 1995-1997, as well es in the former period, there is presented in the article an estimative apperiation of economical losses caused by staggers disease among cattle. The highest extensiveness of invasion of F. hepatica L. among cattle was noticed in the fifties and sixties manty in the north-eastern Poland. Losses caused by confiscation of a liver to amounted to 1 197 031 zl in 1995, 1 277 154 zl in 1996 and 1 312 078 zl in 1997.

RESUMO

Etiology, clinical course and prognosis were analysed in 346 patients with anuric/oliguric acute renal failure (ARF) treated in the Department of Nephrology, Silesian University School of Medicine in Katowice from January 1984 to December 1993. 41 of them were over 65 years of age (mean age 70.9 +/- 0.7 years) while 305 were younger (mean age 40.6 +/- 0.7 years). According to etiology patients with ARF of both groups were allocated into following subgroups: medical, urological, obstetric, rhabdomyolysis, toxic, traumatic and surgery. Total mortality was similar in both groups of patients (34.0% in older and 40.6% in younger patients respectively). Mean hospitalization time was also similar in both groups of patients with ARF (23.8 +/- 2.3 and 22.0 +/- 0.8 days respectively). Medical, urological and surgical factors were the most frequent causes of ARF in the elderly while traumatic causes and intoxications were extremely rare in these patients. Mortality in the individual etiological groups of ARF was of similarly magnitude in both examined groups. These results suggest that older age does not significantly worsen the outcome of ARF.

RESUMO

Cases of taeniosis were mostly caused by Taenia saginata (318 cases--84.8%). They were more frequently found in urban populations (255 cases, which is 68%) than in villagers (63 cases--16.80%). Among the studied subjects there were fewer women than men (women--147, 39.2%, men--171--46.67%); taeniosis was diagnosed most frequently among persons aged 30-39 (89 cases--23.73%) and only rarely in children aged 0-9 (8 cases--2.13%). From 1986 through 1994 cysticercosis caused by Cysticercus bovis was found in 1684 (0.018%) animals of 934,202 heads of cattle slaughtered in Katowice district. That particular cysticercosis was observed each year. During the period 1986-1994 cysticercosis caused by Cysticercus cellulosae was found in only few pigs (6 cases--0.0001% of 5930961 examined pigs). In the same period of time echinococcosis was found in 196711 pigs, which is 3.3% of 5930961 examined animals.

RESUMO

During the experiments it was used the immunoenzymatic ELISA test which detected the antigen Giardia 65 (GSA 65) in stool. We were tested 96 children of private school in the age of 7 to 14 and 83 persons aged 13 to 65. The samples of the stool firstly examined with standard method: direct smear in isotonic solution of NaCl in Lugol liquid and decantation. The investigated population of children with standard method shows the presence of the Giardia lamblia cyst in one of the samples (1.04%) and with the ELISA test in two samples (2.08%). In second group of the examined persons both methods the standard and ELISA test shows the occurrence of Giardia cyst in the samples (1.2%).

RESUMO

In the years 1987-88 the density of the population of I. ricinus on the territory of Kraków-Czestochowa Highland including the Ojców National Park was studied. The method of collection of ticks from 100 m2 fields was applied. On the spite of similar ecological conditions there was marked variation in the population density of I. ricinus. It decreased from East to West, where territories are under the strong pressure of the Upper Silesia and Olkusz industry.
